Borough had put themselves in a controlling position by the interval with two goals a-piece from Julia Carruthers and Eleftheria Taladianoy. Carruthers opened the scoring through sheer persistence as close range efforts were blocked before she turned in the loose ball from a tight angle. Taladianoy doubled the lead with a well placed shot inside the top corner from the edge of the pemalty area and added a third when she slotted home, again from a tight angle after another block by visiting ‘keeper Gemma Cox. Kristina O’Connell pulled one back as she beat the off-side trap and ran on to guide the ball past advancing Borough ‘keeper Lekesha James from the edge of the area. Carruthers soon restored the three goal advantage with a close range finish and Michelle Thomas was unlucky not to get herself on the scoresheet as her speed took her clear only for her finshing effort to flash inches wide. After the interval it was a different story as the visitors played with greater determination and Borough failed to raise their game in response. Fortunately, Sarah Cleary remained strong at the heart of the defence and read the game well so the final result never looked to be in serious doubt. The Owls scored the only goal of the half at the midway point with O’Connells fine shot from the edge of the area as she was left with time and space to pick her spot as she collected a throw in completely unmarked. So Borough closed the gap on the leaders to four points with two games in hand on them by virtue of this tenth consecutive League win after the disastrous opening to the season which failed to bring a win from the first three games.
